Dwight Rhoden about The Great Gatsby 28.04.2014
You’ve worked with Russian dancers before – including Diana Vishneva. Now you’re planning a project with dancer Denis Matvienko and composer Konstantin Meladze?
Work is in full swing. The name of the ballet is The Great Gatsby, it’s based on the Fitzgerald’s novel. I wrote the libretto an am thrilled with the work – it’s coming out really exciting. Denis will play Jay Gatsby; we’re still working on the rest of the casting. Premiere is planned for the 2014/15 season in St. Petersburg.
Do you like this crazy story?
It is magnificent. This project is a great opportunity to embody what I think of it. Gatsby story is multilayered and is difficult to translate to the stage, but in this lays the main challenge. At the end of the day, I like the times it all happened in – the 1920s, and the main theme – chasing a dream, because that topic is infinite.
